United States Army Field Band & Soldiers’ Chorus Concert Just Announced for March 21

The internationally acclaimed United States Army Field Band of Washington, DC will continue its long tradition of presenting free public performances when it appears at The Weidner Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, March 21st at 7:30pm. The Army Field Band’s concert in Green Bay is sponsored by the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts

The Concert Band & Soldiers’ Chorus are the oldest and largest of The U.S. Army Field Band’s performing components. These two ensembles combine to present joint concerts on their national tours. They have performed in all 50 states and 30 foreign countries for audiences totaling hundreds of millions.

The 65-member Concert Band and 29-member Soldiers’ Chorus perform regularly in some of the most famous concert halls in the world, and just as often in the humblest auditoriums in the smallest of communities. The joining of these two ensembles allows them to offer unparalleled versatility of programming, ranging from orchestral masterworks and operatic arias to Sousa marches, jazz classics, and Broadway musicals. The band and chorus also perform independently, and have recently shared the stage with such ensembles as the Boston Pops, the Cincinnati Pops, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra.

In addition to their national tours, formal concerts, chamber recitals, and educational outreach, members of the Concert Band and Soldiers’ Chorus frequently represent the Army at formal and ceremonial functions, including the Presidential Inaugural Parade, presidential funerals, the Army All-American Bowl, and diplomatic efforts overseas. More than six decades as the military’s most traveled musicians have earned them the title, “The Musical Ambassadors of the Army.”

Mythbusters: Jamie & Adam Unleashed – April 14 at 7:30pm

The Weidner Center for the Performing Arts is thrilled to announce that the all-new live show MythBusters Jamie & Adam UNLEASHED!, starring Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage, co-hosts of the Emmy-nominated Discovery series “MythBusters,” debuts at the Weidner Center in Green Bay for one night only on April 14, 2015 at 7:30 pm. Tickets go on sale to the public on February 6 at 11 am.

MythBusters Jamie & Adam UNLEASHED! presents a fantastical evening of on-stage experiments, audience participation, exciting videos, and behind-the-scenes stories.   With this show, fans join Jamie and Adam onstage to assist in their mind-blowing and mind-twisting approaches to science. MythBusters Jamie & Adam UNLEASHED! brings you face-to-face with the curious world of Jamie and Adam as the duo matches wits on stage with each other and members of the audience.

Since 2012, Jamie and Adam have toured North America, Australia and New Zealand with their live show. To date, they have performed in 91 cities, given 102 performances, over 200,000 people have seen them onstage and the tour has grossed over $12 million. This April, the tour will perform 17 dates across the US.

One of the most highly regarded and watched series on the Discovery Channel, “MythBusters” is now in its thirteenth season. Co-hosted by Hyneman and Savage, the show mixes scientific method with gleeful curiosity and plain old-fashioned ingenuity to create its own signature style of explosive experimentation – and the supporting or de-bunking of urban myths that we live with day to day.

Jamie and Adam have become spokespersons at large for applying science to real life – most recently as hosts of the Discovery Channel special “iGenius: How Steve Jobs Changed the World,” and have appeared on numerous shows including “Late Show with David Letterman,” “Good Morning America,” “The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson,” “The Colbert Report,” NPR’s “All Things Considered” and “Morning Edition,” “Countdown with Keith Olberman,” and many more. They were invited to participate in Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert’s Rally to Restore Fear And/Or Sanity and have received the Young Artist Award for inspiring young people in the interest of science. The MythBusters have been invited to participate on a panel at Comic-Con, where their appearances have sold-out four years running.

Jamie and Adam serve as guest editors for Popular Mechanics and were featured on the cover of the September 2009 issue. That same year, they were inducted as honorary members into Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society. They are Honorary Lifetime Members of the California Science Teachers Association and were named Honorary Engineers and Honorary Members of the Francis Crowe Society at the University of Maine. Both Hyneman and Savage were given honorary Doctorates at the University of Twente in the Netherlands for their efforts at popularization of science.

Jamie and Adam produced and starred in an H1N1 Public Service Announcement for the White House, and were chosen by the President to retest the Archimedes legend using 500 schoolchildren as surrogate soldiers.

They appeared as themselves in the movie Darwin Awards and have made several cameos on other TV shows, including CSI. And In 2010, Hyneman and Savage received the Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award in Cultural Humanism from the Harvard Secular Society.

Jamie Hyneman is the owner of M5 Industries, an effects company specializing in problematic custom builds. Besides serving as headquarters of “MythBusters,” M5 continues to work on various research & development projects for private clients.

After trying his hand at careers as various as librarian at the United Nations in Geneva to running a diving and sailing charter business in the Caribbean, Hyneman began his career in show business as special effects shop assistant in New York and later in San Francisco as a crew member on films including “Robocop,” “Arachnophobia” and “Naked Lunch.”

While managing Colossal Pictures’ model shop in San Francisco, Hyneman was given the opportunity to take over – and M5 Industries was born.

Hyneman graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Russian. He has received an honorary engineering degree from the University of Maine as well as an honorary doctorate of engineering from Villanova University, with whom he has an ongoing collaborative relationship to help develop new safety concepts for the military. He is the holder of several patents and the winner of numerous industry awards.

Hyneman currently resides the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife.

Adam Savage received a call from Jamie Hyneman in 2002 to participate in a demo for a TV show, which turned into the wildly popular Discovery Channel & SBS series “MythBusters.”

Savage immersed himself in the NYC arts scene before moving to San Francisco in 1990 to parlay his skills into the thriving theater scene. There he worked for dozens of companies as set designer, prop master, art director and producer before falling into the machine art community where he learned welding, pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics and robot-building.

After exhibiting his work in over 50 art shows nationwide, Savage caught the eye of the special effects industry and began working as a prop builder and art director for major commercials for Sega, Coca-Cola, Nike, Burger King and Chevrolet. His work on a Coca-Cola commercial earned him a Clio Award nomination.

After a 18-month stint as head of research & development for startup toy company ZOOB, Savage joined George Lucas’ Industrial Light and Magic, where he worked on “Star Wars: Episodes 1 and 2,” “Galaxy Quest,” “Space Cowboys,” “A.I.,” “Terminator 3,” “The Mummy,” and dozens of commercials. During this time he also worked as model-shop supervisor for the two “Matrix” sequels as well as taught at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco.

Savage continues to dabble in his multiple hobbies, including passionately restoring his vintage four-wheel drive vehicle and accruing new pieces for his movie prop collection. He currently lives in San Francisco with his wife, twin boys and two dogs.

Gabriel Iglesias Unity Through Laughter Tour Just Announced

Born in Chula Vista, California, Gabriel Iglesias is the youngest of six children, raised by a single mother. Growing up, the family lived in Section 8 housing in Long Beach, CA. It was during his childhood that he developed a strong sense of humor to deal with the obstacles he faced. In 1997, he set out to hone his comedic skills and performed stand-up anywhere he could find an audience, including biker bars and hole in the wall joints. He never could have foreseen the incredible success he has experienced.

Today, Iglesias is one of America’s most successful stand-up comedians and he performs in sold-out concerts across the United States and Internationally. His stand-up comedy is a mixture of storytelling, parodies, characters and sound effects that bring his personal experiences to life. His unique and animated comedy style has made him popular among fans of all ages.

On July 11, 2014 Iglesias’s highly anticipated stand-up comedy film, The Fluffy Movie (Open Road Films) hit theaters. Following the release of The Fluffy Movie, Gabriel appeared in 20th Century Fox’s animated film The Book of Life alongside Zoe Saldana and Channing Tatum. Since giving up his job as a grocery truck driver in 2002, Tim Hawkins has been forging the magical blend between two comedic ideals: A genuinely funny comedy show that caters to the entire family. Is it realistic? Hawkins believes so. With over 200 million views on YouTube, 120+ sold out shows every year, and a motley crew of 400K+ Facebook fans, Tim has started a gut-busting grassroots revolution of multi-generational proportions, and he’s bringing it to Green Bay for the first time July 19, 2015, performing at the Weidner Center at 7:00pm. Ingrid Michaelson to perform Saturday, November 15 at UW-Green Bay’s Weidner Center

GREEN BAY – Students and the public are invited to attend an evening with Ingrid Michaelson as part of her “ ‘Lights Out’ — Just stripped-down Tour” at the Weidner Center at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, at 7:30 pm on Saturday, November 15, 2014.

Michaelson debuted her 5th studio album on April 15. Her last release, “Human Again,” debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard album chart (plus No. 1 on iTunes).

According to Michaelson “Lights Out” refers to what members say on her tour bus when everyone’s ready to call it a night. But given recent developments in her life, it’s become “a metaphor for contemplating mortality and letting go — themes more thoughtful than they are dark. The album builds into intensity, but is anchored by the swelling pop-affirmation “Time Machine” and the sweetly buoyant “Girls Chase Boys,” which fits squarely into her existing catalog.”

Damian McGinty, 21, is an Irish actor and singer from Derry, Northern Ireland. Damian has been performing for more than a decade, and was a member of the group Celtic Thunder for four years, starting from age fourteen. While with the group, Damian completed four coast-to-coast tours of the USA and Canada, and Celtic Thunder sold over one million CDs and DVDs as well as over 400,000 concert tickets while he was a member. Damian also performed in six Celtic Thunder specials for Public Television. The new sound, set, and video design centering around a proscenium-sized LED curtain and high-resolution screen create an entirely new, high-impact visual experience for Broadway houses across the nation.

The critically acclaimed Blue Man Group creates experiences that defy categorization. Blue Man Group is best known for multi-media performances that feature three bald and blue characters who take the audience on a journey that is funny, intelligent and visually stunning. A live band, whose haunting tribal rhythms help drive the show to its climax, accompanies the Blue Men.

Green Bay (June 18, 2013) – Two-time Emmy winner, NY Times bestselling author, Grammy nominee, GLAAD Vanguard recipient and Trevor Project Life Award honoree Kathy Griffin is a multi-faceted performer with rapid fire wit. Ethan Bortnick to Perform at Weidner July 11

At 12 years old Ethan Bortnick has moved audiences nationally and internationally as a pianist, composer, singer, entertainer, and a driven humanitarian, dedicated to combining his musical pursuits with his charity work.  Ethan has toured the world, connecting with diverse audiences in countries such as South Africa, Brazil, and Australia. In 2011, he made history as the youngest entertainer to headline a show in Las Vegas and recently, Ethan was certified a Guinness World Records title-holder as The World’s Youngest Solo Musician to Headline his own Tour.  

Ethan has been featured on many national late night and morning television shows, including multiple appearances on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Good Morning America” and “Oprah,” where he was named one of Oprah’s “All Time Smartest, Most Talented Kids.” In 2010, Ethan made history as the youngest musician to create and host his own award-winning, nationally-televised concert special on PBS.
