VOCALOSITY – The ACA-Perfect Concert Experience!

January 4, 2016

(Green Bay, WI) – Tickets are now on sale for VOCALOSTY – THE ACA PERFECT CONCERT EXPERIENCE playing at The Weidner Center for the Performing Arts on January 22, 2016 at 7:30pm. The 12 powerhouse vocalists that comprise the new all-star a cappella group are Matthew Bryan Feld, James C. Jones, Hannah Juliano, Kelli Koloszar, Cheeyang Ng, Gerianne Pérez, Nattalyee Randall, Tracy L.J. Robertson, Chesney Snow, Bryant Vance, Nicole Weiss and Amy Whitcomb.

VOCALOSITY is the all-new live concert event from the creative mind of artistic producer Deke Sharon (Pitch Perfect, The Sing-Off) that takes a cappella to a whole new level! This fast-paced production features an all-star ensemble of diverse young vocalists singing some of today’s chart-topping hits in brand-new arrangements that set a new standard for 12-part harmony.

No genre of music is off limits in the world of a cappella and VOCALOSITY covers them all – from tenth century Gregorian chant and classical choral to barber shop quartet and bouncing doo-wop all the way to an exploration of the current sound of a cappella with music from The Beatles, Bruno Mars and more. Combine that with direction and choreography from Sean Curran (Stomp original cast member) and you have an exhilarating evening of song unlike anything ever seen or heard, live on stage.

“Over the past few years, a cappella has grown from what was once considered a stuffy Ivy League activity to a pop culture phenomenon beloved by people of all ages,” says Deke Sharon, who serves as artistic director, music director and co-creator of the production. “VOCALOSITY is my dream team, an all-star ensemble of diverse young singers each with a unique style and personality. Most vocal groups aspire to create one sound and style, homogenizing the character of their singers, but this group is the exact opposite, weaving a variety of tapestries from different combinations of voices and characters.”

Hailed as “the father of contemporary a cappella” by Entertainment Weekly, Sharon has served as on-site music director and vocal producer for the smash hit films Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2 as well as vocal producer of NBC’s The Sing-Off.

Tickets may be purchased online at WeidnerCenter.com, by phone at 800-895-0071, or in person at Ticket Star locations. To learn more about VOCALOSITY, please visit http://vocalosityontour.com/.

Tickets go on sale to the public on February 6 at 11 am.

MythBusters Jamie & Adam UNLEASHED! presents a fantastical evening of on-stage experiments, audience participation, exciting videos, and behind-the-scenes stories.   With this show, fans join Jamie and Adam onstage to assist in their mind-blowing and mind-twisting approaches to science. MythBusters Jamie & Adam UNLEASHED! brings you face-to-face with the curious world of Jamie and Adam as the duo matches wits on stage with each other and members of the audience.

Since 2012, Jamie and Adam have toured North America, Australia and New Zealand with their live show. To date, they have performed in 91 cities, given 102 performances, over 200,000 people have seen them onstage and the tour has grossed over $12 million. This April, the tour will perform 17 dates across the US.

One of the most highly regarded and watched series on the Discovery Channel, “MythBusters” is now in its thirteenth season. Co-hosted by Hyneman and Savage, the show mixes scientific method with gleeful curiosity and plain old-fashioned ingenuity to create its own signature style of explosive experimentation – and the supporting or de-bunking of urban myths that we live with day to day.

Jamie and Adam have become spokespersons at large for applying science to real life – most recently as hosts of the Discovery Channel special “iGenius: How Steve Jobs Changed the World,” and have appeared on numerous shows including “Late Show with David Letterman,” “Good Morning America,” “The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson,” “The Colbert Report,” NPR’s “All Things Considered” and “Morning Edition,” “Countdown with Keith Olberman,” and many more. They were invited to participate in Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert’s Rally to Restore Fear And/Or Sanity and have received the Young Artist Award for inspiring young people in the interest of science. The MythBusters have been invited to participate on a panel at Comic-Con, where their appearances have sold-out four years running.

Jamie and Adam serve as guest editors for Popular Mechanics and were featured on the cover of the September 2009 issue. That same year, they were inducted as honorary members into Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society. They are Honorary Lifetime Members of the California Science Teachers Association and were named Honorary Engineers and Honorary Members of the Francis Crowe Society at the University of Maine. Both Hyneman and Savage were given honorary Doctorates at the University of Twente in the Netherlands for their efforts at popularization of science.

Jamie and Adam produced and starred in an H1N1 Public Service Announcement for the White House, and were chosen by the President to retest the Archimedes legend using 500 schoolchildren as surrogate soldiers.

They appeared as themselves in the movie Darwin Awards and have made several cameos on other TV shows, including CSI. And In 2010, Hyneman and Savage received the Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award in Cultural Humanism from the Harvard Secular Society.

About Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage

Adam Savage received a call from Jamie Hyneman in 2002 to participate in a demo for a TV show, which turned into the wildly popular Discovery Channel & SBS series “MythBusters.”

Savage immersed himself in the NYC arts scene before moving to San Francisco in 1990 to parlay his skills into the thriving theater scene. There he worked for dozens of companies as set designer, prop master, art director and producer before falling into the machine art community where he learned welding, pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics and robot-building.

After exhibiting his work in over 50 art shows nationwide, Savage caught the eye of the special effects industry and began working as a prop builder and art director for major commercials for Sega, Coca-Cola, Nike, Burger King and Chevrolet. His work on a Coca-Cola commercial earned him a Clio Award nomination.

After a 18-month stint as head of research & development for startup toy company ZOOB, Savage joined George Lucas’ Industrial Light and Magic, where he worked on “Star Wars: Episodes 1 and 2,” “Galaxy Quest,” “Space Cowboys,” “A.I.,” “Terminator 3,” “The Mummy,” and dozens of commercials. During this time he also worked as model-shop supervisor for the two “Matrix” sequels as well as taught at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco.

Savage continues to dabble in his multiple hobbies, including passionately restoring his vintage four-wheel drive vehicle and accruing new pieces for his movie prop collection. He currently lives in San Francisco with his wife, twin boys and two dogs.

John Mellencamp Sets Out On Plain Spoken Tour – First Leg of Tour Kicks Off

New York, NY (January 28, 2015) – After kicking off his Plain Spoken Tour with sold out shows in South Bend, IN, Louisville, Cincinnati and two nights at Nashville’s historic Ryman Theatre, John Mellencamp will crisscross North America for a total of 80 shows, hitting his hometown of Bloomington, as well as Chicago, Los Angeles, four nights in New York, and multiple dates across Canada. The tour, produced by AEG Live, will continue through August and features special guest Carlene Carter. Tickets and VIP packages for the “Voice of the Heartland’s” 2015 tour are selling out quick – fans can purchase available tickets for the Plain Spoken Tour at JohnMellencamp.com.

Accolades for the tour’s opening night are already pouring in: “For this opening-night performance, both Mellencamp and Carter came out confident and purposeful, ready for the 79 dates ahead to mine the roots of American music and investigate what it means to live and die.” – South Bend Tribune

“Friday night at a sold-out Louisville Palace, the 63-year-old Mellencamp had his share of fun — he’s always been a consummate showman — but there was an underlying richness to his set that was far more impressive.” – Louisville Courier-Journal

“John Mellencamp’s sold-out Plain Spoken Tour stop at the Aronoff Center for the Arts in Cincinnati felt more like 3,300 old friends getting back together rather than 3,300 strangers meeting for a night of music–that’s the effect of Mellencamp’s music. It feels good and familiar, like going back home after being away for years; and Saturday night, it felt damn good to all that attended.” – Out of the Blue

The Rock And Roll Hall of Famer and Grammy Award winner released Plain Spoken September 23, one of the most lauded records of his career, to rave reviews. Fans will receive a digital download of Plain Spoken with their ticket purchase.

Praise for Plain Spoken:

“Folk-rock and philosophy are the makings of John Mellencamp’s new album, Plain Spoken. The music looks back towards Bob Dylan’s “Blood On The Tracks, with strummed guitars, and brushes on the drums and neck-rack harmonica, and the words ponder trouble, power, love, God, freedom, and mortality – the concerns of a songwriter acting his age.”  – New York Times

“Rugged, rural and packed with an aging rocker’s gimmick-free reflections on life and hope Plain Spoken is the first album in Mellencamp’s “lifetime contract” with Republic. The stark, soul- baring lead single, “Troubled Man” like the rest of the album, follows the acoustic path of Mellencamp’s last two project’s 2010’s No Better Than This and 2008’s Life, Death Love and Freedom.” – BILLBOARD

JOHN MELLENCAMP  Mellencamp’s  career  in music, spanning  more  than  35  years, has  seen  him  transition  from  pop star  to  one  of  the  most  highly regarded songwriters of a generation.  The Voice of The Heartland continues to evolve artistically with Plain Spoken—the first new music from the artist since 2010’s critically acclaimed No Better Than ThisPlain Spoken is John’s 22nd full length album.  Mellencamp is incredibly acclaimed. He is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a Grammy winner, a recipient of the John Steinbeck Award, ASCAP  Foundation’s Champion  Award,  The Woody Guthrie Award,  and Americana Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award.  He is also one of the most successful live concert performers in the world.  The social activism reflected in his songs helped catalyze Farm Aid, the concert series and organization that has  addressed the struggle of American family farmers for more than 25 years.  The unique instrumentation of his band and his poignant songs about everyday life in the American heartland, are widely credited with being the forbearer of the Americana/No Depression genre of rural-inflected music.   The Ghost Brothers of Darkland County is a musical with music and lyrics by John Mellencamp, a libretto by author Stephen King and production by T Bone Burnett.  This extraordinary collaboration 16 years in the making is a haunting tale of fraternal love, lust, jealousy and revenge, performed by an ensemble cast of 15 actors and a four-piece live band, comprised of members of John Mellencamp’s band. The Musical is currently on tour in North America. An 80-city tour in North American and Canada  begins in January 2015. His final performance held in Indianapolis at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse on August 4th will benefit the Riley Children’s Foundation, which supports Riley Hospital for Children (rileykids.org).  Also an accomplished painter, his one-man show The Paintings of John Mellencamp is currently on view at Morris Museum of Art in Augusta, GA from January 17 to April 12, 2015.

Tim Hawkins Performing Live at the Weidner Center

Monday, October 13, 2014

Since giving up his job as a grocery truck driver in 2002, Tim Hawkins has been forging the magical blend between two comedic ideals: A genuinely funny comedy show that caters to the entire family. Is it realistic? Hawkins believes so. With over 200 million views on YouTube, 120+ sold out shows every year, and a motley crew of 400K+ Facebook fans, Tim has started a gut-busting grassroots revolution of multi-generational proportions, and he’s bringing it to Green Bay for the first time July 19, 2015, performing at the Weidner Center at 7:00pm. Tickets start at $24.

What sets him apart? Some would say it is his equally gifted and twisted approach to the medium. A self-taught guitarist, Hawkins will go note-for-note on everything from Skynyrd to Bon Jovi to Prince, while dishing out flawless vocal imitations of Bono, Jason Aldean, and John Mayer… all within mere minutes. His stand-up material is vigorous, well-timed, and honed to perfection. However, the connection he makes with his fans goes deeper than that: “If you can’t laugh at yourself, laugh at other people.” It is this ability to show the brokenness of our human nature and simultaneously marvel in its hilarity which makes Tim such a unique artist.

With four munchkins of his own and a beautiful wife who is winning her battle with breast cancer, Hawkins develops new material daily by simply absorbing the world around him. The perils of marriage, parenting, and homeschooling may not exemplify the rock-star life, but they sure make for great comedy.

Ingrid Michaelson to perform Saturday, November 15 at UW-Green Bay’s Weidner Center

September 16, 2014

GREEN BAY – Students and the public are invited to attend an evening with Ingrid Michaelson as part of her “ ‘Lights Out’ — Just stripped-down Tour” at the Weidner Center at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, at 7:30 pm on Saturday, November 15, 2014.

Michaelson debuted her 5th studio album on April 15. Her last release, “Human Again,” debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard album chart (plus No. 1 on iTunes).

According to Michaelson “Lights Out” refers to what members say on her tour bus when everyone’s ready to call it a night. But given recent developments in her life, it’s become “a metaphor for contemplating mortality and letting go — themes more thoughtful than they are dark. The album builds into intensity, but is anchored by the swelling pop-affirmation “Time Machine” and the sweetly buoyant “Girls Chase Boys,” which fits squarely into her existing catalog.”

Student tickets go on sale at 9:00 am at the University Ticketing and Information Center (UTIC) at UW-Green Bay on Tuesday, September 23. Student-priced tickets are $22 plus fees. Students may purchase up to 4 student-priced tickets per UWGB Student ID – in person only, Pass Points accepted. Students may purchase additional tickets at the general public price of $32 plus fees.

Tickets to the general public will go on sale on Friday, September 26 starting at 11:00 am from all Ticket Star outlets and Ticket Star Online. All tickets are $32 plus fees.

Tickets may be purchased at www.ticketstaronline.com 7 days a week, or through all Ticket Star locations in Green Bay and Manitowoc or by phone at 800-895-0071 or 920-494-3401. Payment options include cash, check, American Express, Visa, Discover, and MasterCard.
