360° Thursdays Series

Thu., Sep. 26, 2013 · 6:30pm
  • Free Admission (donations appreciated)
  • Fort Howard Hall

Presented by Dr. Timothy Cheek, piano, Dr. Laurie Lashbrook, soprano, and Bohuslava Jelínková, dancer.

A pre-performance talk by Dr. Timothy Cheek will explore Bodorová’s renown, background, and musical style and the evolution of the creation of the song cycle, choreography, and projected images. The focus is on how the song cycle reflects our world today, the Czech Republic within that world, and an impassioned plea to safeguard the world’s water. This is expressed through a mixture of Czech folk, Roma, Hebrew, and modern elements. Performers will  be available to answer questions from the audience at the end of the performance.

360° Thursdays: music from every angle will present eight events during the 2013-14 academic year. The performances are designed to help audiences connect with music in more meaningful ways. Events feature scintillating and provocative discussions by composers, performers, and arrangers in which specific aspects of the music are explored through multiple perspectives.
