Mozart: Overture to “Don Giovanni”
Nielsen: Clarinet Concerto
Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 3 (“Scottish”)
Jerry Simas, Clarinet
Donato Cabrera, Conductor
Tension. Terror. Suspense. All of this, and more, can be found in the emotional overture to one of Mozart’s great, all-time masterpieces. Equally temperamental is the clarinet concerto of Danish composer, Carl Nielsen. Hailed by the Miami Herald as “refreshing” and an instumentalist with “supple dexterity and lyric charm”, clarinetist Jerry Simas is featured as soloist. Inspired by a trip to Scotland in 1829, Mendelssohn’s “Scottish” Symphony has evolved ingeniously into one of his crowning symphonic glories.
