Guinness World Record Musician Ethan Bortnick Live in Concert!

For Immediate Release
February 7, 2014

Young entertainer Ethan Bortnick takes his highly successful TV special on tour around the country this spring, with special guest Damian McGinty of Glee and Celtic Thunder!

Ethan Bortnick, the youngest performer ever to headline his own concert tour, will bring his captivating new family music special LIVE to the Weidner Center on Thursday, May 15 at 7 pm.

The young musical sensation, named one of Oprah’s “All Time Smartest, Most Talented Kids,” will be joined on the tour by special guest Damian McGinty of Glee and Celtic Thunder in a concert that highlights Ethan’s belief that music can truly connect people, and ultimately, change the world.

Ethan has seen firsthand the power of music to manifest global change. At only 13 years old, he has already harnessed the power of music around the world to raise more than $30 million for charity. In 2010, Ethan joined icons such as Tony Bennett, Barbra Streisand, and Celine Dion in re-recording the benefit single “We Are the World” to aid victims of the Haiti earthquake. Due to his extraordinary impact on the world, Ethan was invited to be a part of GAP’s global campaign and was featured on the cover of Esquire magazine. Ethan knows the inspirational power of music to create positive change, and it is that power and unifying energy that Ethan is now bringing to live audiences around the country.

An evening at one of Ethan’s concerts fills audiences with joy and brings them to their feet. In this magical concert, Ethan performs a range of music that appeals to people of all ages. Hear songs from The Beatles to Elton John to Broadway, from Chopin to Neil Diamond, from Michael Jackson to Motown to rock ‘n roll, and everything in between. Ethan will also perform several of his own songs, including some from the recently released movie ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE, in which he starred, co-scored, and wrote 10 songs. He will also involve the audience in the show, compose music on the spot, put together songs instantly using audience stories/ideas, and answer questions during a Q&A segment at each concert. Never before has a show delighted audiences with such unmatched talent, heart, and joy.

Ethan not only stars in The Power of Music, but he also created the entire show. Billy Joel’s Musical Director, Dave Rosenthal, renowned globally for his work including more than twenty years working with Joel, acted as Ethan’s Musical Director for this extraordinary program.

Damian, who will join Ethan on stage, has not toured since he left Celtic Thunder in 2010. The popular 21-year-old Irish singer and actor will perform the songs he sang in Ethan’s PBS special, and maybe even some new songs he has never before performed live. Fans nationwide are eagerly awaiting the young singer’s return to the stage with his charm, infectious energy and rich, beautiful voice.

Also joining Ethan and Damian on stage are a dynamic band, the Green Bay Boys and Girls Choir, and local surprise guest artists.

About Ethan Bortnick

At only 13 years old Ethan Bortnick has already moved audiences nationally and internationally as a pianist, composer, singer, entertainer, and a driven humanitarian, dedicated to combining his musical pursuits with his charity work.  Ethan has toured the world, connecting with diverse audiences in countries such as South Africa, Brazil, and Australia. In 2011, he made history as the youngest entertainer to headline a show in Las Vegas and recently, Ethan was certified a Guinness World Records title-holder as The World’s Youngest Solo Musician to Headline his own Tour. In his career, Ethan has shared the stage with Elton John, Tony Bennett, Gladys Knight, Josh Groban, Santana, and many others.  He has been featured on many national late night and morning television shows, including multiple appearances on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Good Morning America” and “Oprah.” In 2010, Ethan made history as the youngest musician to create and host his own award-winning, nationally televised concert special on PBS. Legend Quincy Jones has this to say of his songcraft: “Ethan’s imagination and ability to create music from stories is unbelievable.” Last year, Ethan completed shooting a full-length feature film called Anything Is Possible, which was released in late 2013.

Once described by the Hollywood Reporter as “a combination of Robin Williams and Jim Carrey”, Frank is one comedian that should not be missed. Other places you might have seen Frank: The Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Conan O’Brien, The View, Comedy Central Presents, Hot In Cleveland, The Comebacks, Mike and Mike, SportsCenter and other ESPN shows.

Theresa Caputo Star of TLC’s ‘Long Island Medium’ Live at the Weidner Center

Theresa Caputo, psychic medium and star of the hit TLC show, Long Island Medium, will be appearing live at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2.

Caputo will give interactive readings to audience members throughout the show and also will share personal stories about her life and her unique gifts. Tickets go on-sale at noon Friday, Sept. 14 at noon at www.weidnercenter.com, 800.895.0071, or all Ticket Star locations. Tickets are $39.75/$49.75/$59.75, plus applicable service fees. A limited number of VIP tickets ($125) will be available. VIP tickets include a post-show meet and greet. Purchasing a ticket does not guarantee a reading.

Long Island Medium begins its third season on TLC Sept. 9. The show has been described as following Caputo’s life as a typical Long Island wife and mom, except for one distinct difference — her ability to communicate with the dead. Since she cannot “turn off” this gift, messages can come through at any time — and the local car mechanic, manicurist or cashier at the bagel shop may find him or herself receiving a spontaneous reading from Caputo as she goes about her daily life. The show also covers how Caputo copes with the special challenges that her unique abilities create for her husband of 22 years, Larry, and her two children, aged 17 and 21.

Caputo has been a practicing medium for 10 years and is a certified medium with the Forever-Family Foundation, an organization dedicated to connectingscience with the afterlife. She helps individuals find closure by connecting them with their departed loved ones. For Caputo, this is not just her job — this is her life.

Green Bay Symphony Orchestra moves offices to Weidner Center at UW-Green Bay

The Green Bay Symphony Orchestra has moved its offices to the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, 2420 Nicolet Drive.

Officials with the University and GBSO are lauding the move as a key step in the signature venue’s revitalization plan, one element of which calls for closer collaboration with community and other arts groups. It’s also a logical logistical move, since the bulk of GBSO’s concerts are performed at the Weidner, officials say.

“This move is a continuation of Weidner Center’s Strategic Plan process, which includes increased collaboration with area cultural agencies and arts organizations,” said UW-Green Bay Chancellor Tom Harden. “We are pleased to welcome the GBSO to the Weidner.”

The GBSO has two full-time and seven part-time employees, and until recently occupied office space in downtown Green Bay. The organization began moving into the Weidner Center Thursday, Aug. 2, and is expected to be fully up and running at the venue effective Monday, Aug. 6. Its phone number will remain the same, at (920) 435-3465.

The GBSO has a rich history, and is preparing to inaugurate its 99th season with an Opening Night concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Weidner Center.

The Symphony Orchestra’s relocation is part of an overall Weidner Center revitalization plan that includes additional opportunities for various community organizations, K-12 educational programming and UW-Green Bay faculty and students. The plan also includes a focus on what traditionally has been termed “mainstage” programming, with the University in May announcing a dynamic and varied 2012-13 Performing Arts Season. The Strategic Plan, which drew on the expertise of an outside consultant, also relied heavily on community and Weidner stakeholder input.

More information on the Weidner Center, including season and ticketing information, is available at www.weidnercenter.com. To learn more about the GBSO and view its season schedule and ticket info, visit www.greenbaysymphony.org.
