Juxtatonal, with Nick Zoulek

6:30 Concert Series

Tue., Nov. 5, 2019 · 6:30pm

Concert will take place in the Weidner Center's Grand Foyer

Juxtatonal [JUX] is a contemporary voice and cello duo performing music that juxtaposes tonality with atonality. JUX aims to legitimize playfulness on stage, find creativity in a recreative art, and connect with audiences through compositions that blur the lines between music, art, and theater. JUX was founded by Detroit-based soprano, Jocelyn Zelasko, and NYC-based cellist, Bryan Hayslett after they met and performed together at Eighth Blackbird’s Creative Lab in June 2017.

JUX will be joined by saxophonist Nick Zoulek. The Wall Street Journal writes, “…Mr. Zoulek’s performance, on saxophones in every range, is stunningly virtuosic, whatever the genre… None of that would matter much (except to saxophonists) if Mr. Zoulek were a less imaginative composer.” His influence on the fields of contemporary music and avant-garde performance has added color, energy, and light to the enigmatic world of the saxophone.
